Durham County had invested in a WordPress site — customised by an external company who also built a plugin connecting directly to GolfGenius, pulling in live competition results and upcoming events. For most county organisations, that single integration is reason enough never to move.
The problem was the company had stopped updating the site. Years passed. The world moved on. The site didn't.
I looked at the GolfGenius plugin and saw a straightforward API connection. So I built a better version of it.
The GolfGenius connector I built does everything the original plugin did — and more. Live scoring for county competitions displays directly on the homepage. Upcoming events pull through automatically. No manual updates, no copy and pasting results.
The bigger problem with the old site was WordPress data tables — cumbersome to manage, slow to update, and a constant source of friction for the team. We got rid of them entirely.
The new site is built on HTML and PHP. Dynamic content throughout connects directly to Google Spreadsheets — the county team update a row in a spreadsheet and the website reflects it immediately. No WordPress admin, no data tables, no technical knowledge needed. Just a spreadsheet.
The result is a fast, modern website that the county can actually maintain themselves — with live competition data, dynamic content, and none of the WordPress baggage.
